Why families are the solution to malnutrition!

Joy Kauffman, MPH

Nutrition, sanitation, and care are essential during the first 1,000 days of life. These young kids are generally with their moms!

I met this little boy at a FARM STEW Training in I met this little boy at a FARM STEW Training in Uganda.

‍His stomach shows he's probably feeding worms and he's malnourished.
‍But his mom is here too, learning about what to do to feed him!

The village has stopped everything to come out to a FARM STEW training!

The whole family is learning, hands-on, to make protein-rich soymilk.

Nutrient-dense soy foods and proper sanitation can make a huge difference. Beans can provide a high percentage of protein, sufficient to meet human needs.  The American Heart Association declares “Soy protein has been shown to be equal to proteins of animal origin. It can be your sole protein source if you choose.”

And the kids LOVE it!

Simple, accessible knowledge that can save lives, taught and learned hands-on by local people! That is what FARM STEW is all about!

That's why I can smile  this whole crew!with

Quotes
"I am 14 years old, and I started my period this year. My first day I felt shy and I missed school... It is not easy to find pads in my village and the few here are very expensive to buy. These new pads are going to protect me when I am having my period. Since they are reusable, I am not going to worry anymore when my periods come!"
